About Nathan

Spiritual Counseling and Supervision

Rev. Nathan Brisby is a dean of the InterSpiritual Counseling program of One Spirit Learning Alliance.  He is a certified grief counselor through the American Academy of Grief Counseling.  His counseling practice focuses on deep listening, combined with spiritual modalities that serve to aid you in self-discovery and connection to that which is larger than our "small s" self.  Nathan is also available as a supervisor for counselors-in-training.

Public Speaking

Nathan is an award-winning public speaker and coach.  He holds an MBA from the Zicklin School of Business and a masters in Rhetoric.  He has spoken at numerous wellness conferences, spiritual community events, the TED Conference, churches, and business events on topics ranging from the importance of mindful leadership, compassion fatigue, building authentic community, listening skills, and the spiritual needs of the queer community.

Group Facilitation

Nathan has designed and facilitated workshops on the following topics:

  • deep listening
  • giving and receiving feedback
  • mindful leadership
  • motivational interviewing
  • building authentic community
  • welcoming the queer community
  • compassion fatigue

Communities I Love

Being queer comes with many gifts and challenges.  Family wounding, relationship difficulties, and a lack of authentic community often disrupt our innate drive toward wholeness.  As a gay man, Nathan has a unique understanding of the challenges that come with being lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, gay, queer, gender non-conforming, gender queer, asexual, intersex, transgender, questioning, etc.  While our identities come up against religious communities in ways that are less than welcomed, our identities are also the key to our deepest spiritual gifts.

Theatre Community

Being a member of the theatre community is a gift that few take lightly.  It is a calling and a rich gift.  Nathan worked for over a decade as a professional actor, and has maintained close ties to the Broadway community.  He founded a not-for-profit, Broadway Gives Back, which works to establish connections between non-profit organizations and the Broadway community.  Nathan works privately with many members of the Broadway community to support the distinct and sometimes difficult spiritual path of being a working actor.

Animal Welfare

Achieving social change for animals is the calling of a lifetime.  Making a difference can also mean that you run out of energy, compassion, and some days feel very, very dark.  As an animal lover and animal welfare worker, Nathan has a unique view into the challenges that come with working in this field.  Nathan is available for both 1-on-1 spiritual/grief counseling, as well as group work.
